Post NFL Draft Analysis

The 2010 NFL Draft wrapped up on April 24. While many draft picks were predictable, some were not. Notables include: Tim Tebow, going 25th overall to the Broncos; Tyson Alualu, going 10th overall to the Jaguars; and Rolando McClain going 8th overall when many thought Oakland would take a QB. Some players, who were expected to be 1st-rounders, were not chosen until later rounds. Notables from that group include: Jimmy Clausen, taken 48th by Carolina; Colt McCoy, taken 85th by the Browns; and Dan LeFevour, taken in the 6th round (181 overall) by the Bears. Some were not even drafted, such as Oregon RB LeGarrette Blount and Connecticut DE Lindsey Witten, both projected as late-round picks. However, both have signed as undrafted free agents; Blount with the Titans, Witten with the Steelers. I was very happy when Connecticut WR Marcus Easley was selected by the Bills with the 9th pick of the 4th round (107 overall). Easley was projected as a 6th to 7th round pick. A big reciever, he is 6'3" and weighs about 210. ESPN showed a highlight reel at the draft, giving him some well-deserved fame. He will be interviewed tomorrow, April 29 at 11:30 on ESPN2. I didn't have much time to analyze team drafts, so I'll follow up on that very soon.

Donovan McNabb Trade

As you may know, Donovan McNabb was traded to the Washington Redskins for a 2nd round pick in this year's draft, and a 3rd or 4th round pick in 2011. Many thought he would be headed to the Oakland Raiders. Eagles fans have mixed emotions. However McNabb is not headed to just any team. He is going to the Eagles's division rival in the NFC East. Will McNabb be booed by Eagles fans? This will be interesting. This is what I question...why would the Eagles only get 2 picks? A second round pick this year and third or fourth next year? Maybe they should have gotten an additional pick this year or next. I just think that the picks are not a fair trade for McNabb. What do you think?

My First Opinion

The NFL Draft is only a few weeks away. With all of the Pro Days going on for so many talented stars, It's hard to know whose draft stock has risen or fell. I am eyeing the Rams and Colts the most. I feel the Rams may decide to grab Ndamukong Suh simply because they do have the first overall pick. Then, because they have the second round pick (33rd overall) if Colt McCoy is still available or possibly Jimmy Clausen, they should take a quarterback. There is plenty of QB talent in this draft class. If they take a QB, they will have a ton of talent to pick from. If the Rams employ this strategy, they are taking some wonderful steps to build a solid team. The Colts could take a DE with Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis getting older. They have they 31st overall pick. They are loaded on offense, but may need a little work on defense. I think the Colts should look to go defense in earlier rounds, then grab some steals on offense later on. This is one of the most exciting NFL drafts I have ever seen. We will see some surprising picks!
